For me, the working in the yard assignment was a pivotal project because it was the first big assignment in a class I was extremely concerned about being able to understand. As I worked out the different elements such as square footage of the lot and subtracted the square footage of the house and driveway, I began to realize that although there were many things to figure out, I could actually understand the process. I continued to work through each part, ultimately deciding that opting for delivery versus hauling loads in a personal pickup truck was a better way, by far. The cost was almost exactly the same but the work required to haul it in my own truck was staggering. It was fun to see the comparison but for me, a person who struggled with math for my whole life, I found confidence in my own mathematical abilities in this assignment and I was able to keep that focus throughout the remainder of the semester.
